Its architecture incorporates excellent examples from many different periods – from Norman to the Romans who used bricks salvaged from Verulam to build the Great Tower. It is best known for the Shrine of St Albans – Britain’s first Christian martyr. Light lunches and teas and coffees can be enjoyed at the “Café at The Abbey”, situated in the Chapter House.
